#5 Lakers Shutout Davenport 1-0 Friday

ALLENDALE – The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team shutout Davenport 1-0 Friday (Oct. 31) evening at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers improve to 13-2 on the season and 10-1 in the GLIAC.

Both teams played to a scoreless first half. GVSU outshot the Panthers 9-5 with a 3-2 advantage on frame. The Panthers produced two corner kicks in the final 30 seconds of the half and held the Lakers to no corner kicks.

In the second half, GVSU found the back of the net to go up 1-0 in the 65th minute off a set piece. After a Davenport foul, Sophia Morgan sent a free kick ball to the middle of the box where Mackenzie Ford headed it towards the right post. Kacy Lauer was there and stretched to get a toe on the ball that got past the keeper and into the net. That goal was Lauer's fifth of the season as Ford and Morgan picked up the assists. Macie Hunter would make a pair of saves in the final 10 seconds including the biggest one with under 10 seconds to secure the Laker win.

GVSU outshot Davenport 20-13 with 6-4 shots on goal advantage. Davenport produced four corner kicks as GVSU produced two corner kicks. Alli French led GVSU with three shots with two on frame. Ivy Wilhelm recorded three shots, while Kacy Lauer scored the game-winning goal on two shots. Macie Hunter picked up her eighth shutout on the season and notched a season high four saves. Mackenzie Ford, Acadia Murphy, and Lauer played all 90 minutes in the win.

GVSU will close out the week on Sunday, November 2nd when they host Purdue Northwest. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm at the GVSU Soccer field. The Lakers will honor their five seniors after the conclusion of the game. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
