DETROIT, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team defeated Wilberforce 88-59 in an exhibition game in Detroit, Michigan at the Hoops and Culture event held at Wayne State.
Javion Otten led the Lakers with 17 points on 7-14 shooting from the field and 3-6 shooting from three-point range.
Ethan Alderink notched 12 points on 5-6 shooting with three rebounds and two steals.
Marcus Gray II scored 12 points on 4-6 shooting with two made three-pointers and four steals.
David Wilkerson and
Antaune Allen each added eight points.
Mason Docks dished out a game high nine assists and led GVSU swiping six steals and grabbing six rebounds.
GVSU shot 50% from the field and 46% from behind the arc. Wilberforce shot 34% from the field and 22% from three. The Lakers outscored the Bulldogs 40-24 in the paint and 38-13 off turnovers. GVSU forced Wilberforce to commit 31 turnovers, swiping 19 steals. GVSU dished out 26 assists as a team while Wilberforce had nine team assists. Both teams were even grabbing 10 offensive rebounds.
GVSU will begin the 2025-26 regular season against Ashland in a neutral site game in Toledo, Ohio on Friday, November 14
th at 6:00 pm.
