DETROIT, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team opened up the 2025-26 season with a 86-70 loss in an exhibition game at Detroit Mercy Friday (Oct. 24) night. The Lakers will play Wilberforce in a neutral site exhibition game next Thursday (Oct. 30) in Detroit, Michigan on the campus of Wayne State.
David Wilherson led GVSU with 15 points shooting 5-12 from the field with two three-pointers. Wilkerson added four rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Cam Regnerus scored nine points and hauled in seven rebounds while blocking a game high four shots.
Mason Docks and
Trevor Smith Jr. added eight points.
TJ Nadeau led Detroit Mercy with 17 points on 6-7 shooting from the field with four three-pointers. Detroit Mercy shot 52% from the field and 52% from three-point range. GVSU shot 33% from the field and swiped 11 steals.
