SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The No. 2 Grand Valley State women's soccer team claimed a 2-0 shutout win at Roosevelt Sunday (Oct. 19) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 10-2 on the season and 7-1 in the GLIAC.
Sonya Mehta got the scoring started for GVSU in the 24
th minute for her third goal of the season and first game-winning goal. Mehta received a great pass in the middle of the box from
Ivy Wilhelm who kicked it up and over the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
The Lakers would add a second goal in the 66
th minute off the foot of
Sarah Fromm.
Acadia Murphy sent a cross from the right side into the middle of the box for Fromm who headered it in for her team leading sixth goal of the season. Murphy picked up her second assist of the season.
GVSU dominated possession and outshot Roosevelt 25-2 with 14-1 on target. The Lakers produced five corner kicks and held Roosevelt to just one.
Alli French led GVSU with a season high six shots with three on target.
Sarah Fromm notched a goal on four shots with all of them being on target.
Kendall Aikens recorded with four shots with three on target.
Sonya Mehta scored the game-winning goal on three shots with one on frame.
Macie Hunter picked up her sixth shutout of the season making one save.
The Lakers will return home for the final six games of the regular season. GVSU will host Northern Michigan on Friday, October 24
th and Michigan Tech on Sunday, October 26
th. Both games will be streamed live on FloCollege.
