ALLENDALE – The No. 1 Grand Valley State women's soccer team defeated Parkside 3-0 Sunday (Sept. 29) on senior day. The Lakers improve to 6-0-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in the GLIAC.
GVSU came out fast recording eight shots in the first 10 minutes of the game that included four on goal. GVSU also earned seven corner kicks through the first 15 minutes with six of them leading to shots.
The Lakers would end up opening the scoring in the 43
rd minute on the 20
th shot of the game off the foot of
Kacy Lauer. GVSU had two shots blocked in the box and off an attempted clear by Parkside, Lauer gathered the ball and made a move past a defender and was able to kick it up and over the goalkeeper with the left foot for her first goal of the season.
GVSU would go into halftime up 1-0 and started the second half with five shots in the first five minutes. The Lakers would find the back of the net again in the 54
th minute to increase the led to 2-0.
Nina Ferraro played a great ball for
Taylor Reid on the right side who crossed it to the middle of the box where
Emma Chudik was there to kick it home on the bottom left corner of the goal. Chudik notched her team leading third goal of the season, while Reid dished out her team leading third assist.
GVSU would add a third goal in the 79
th minute to make it 3-0.
Amanda Palmer crossed the ball from the left side that bounced past a few players in the box. The ball found its way to
Ryann Fetty at the top of the box where she would kick it past the goalkeeper at the bottom right corner of the goal for her second of the season. Palmer would pick up her first assist of the season.
The Lakers dominated in the shots category notching a season high 39 shots, while holding Parkside to six. GVSU put 13 shots on goal and produced 12 corner kicks to the Rangers one.
Emma Chudik led the Lakers with a goal on five shots with three on goal.
Ryann Fetty scored a goal off four shots with one on goal, while Lauer scored off two shots with one on goal while playing in all 90 minutes of action.
Kennedy Bearden notched five shots with two on goal.
Taylor Reid and
Amanda Palmer each dished out an assist and notched four shots.
Cailynn Junk got the start in goal and earned the win to improve to 5-0-2.
Isabel Imes played the second half in goal.
The Lakers will be back in action next weekend when they host Purdue Northwest on Friday (Oct. 4). Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM at the GVSU Soccer Field. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.
