ALLENDALE – The No. 2 Grand Valley State women's soccer team tied Purdue Northwest 1-1 Friday (Oct. 4) afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers move to 6-0-3 on the season and 3-0-2 in the GLIAC.
Purdue Northwest opened the scoring early in the fifth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The Lakers would create multiple scoring opportunities in the first half but the Pride defense would make two team saves and the goalkeeper would make one save to keep the Laker deficit at one after one half of play.
In the second half, GVSU would create two chances with a pair of shots on goal by
Alli French that was just saved by the goalkeeper to keep it a 1-0 game, and by Amanada Palmer in the 64
th minute.
GVSU would find the equalizer in the 72
nd minute.
Alex Williams fired a shot from just outside the middle of the box that hit off the cross bar.
Sarah Fromm was in great position for the rebound and headed it up and over the keeper to tie the game at one. That goal was Fromm's first collegiate goal in her career.
The Lakers dominated the shots 19-4 and 7-1 on goal. GVSU produced seven corner kicks and allowed Purdue Northwest to just one.
Alex Williams led the Lakers playing all 90 minutes with four shots and her first assist of the season.
Sarah Fromm scored a goal on two shots on goal.
Kennedy Bearden had three shots with one on goal in 64 minutes of play.
Amanda Palmer had three shots with one on goal in 20 minutes of action.
Kacy Lauer and
Daan Louwerse played in all 90 minutes.
Cailynn Junk got the start in goal and moved her record to 5-0-3.
