MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State women's soccer team opened their conference schedule with a 1-0 shutout victory at Northern Michigan Friday (Sept. 20) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 4-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in the GLIAC.
GVSU scored the only goal in the contest in the 65
th minute off the foot of
Ella Kleiver.
Taylor Reid made a great run on the right side and sent a cross where Kleiver was there to deflect the ball and sneak it past the goalkeeper for the game-winning goal. That goal was Kleiver's first of the season, while Reid picked up her second assist of the season.
The Lakers notched 14 shots with six on goal, while Northern Michigan had 19 shots with seven on goal. The Wildcats held a 7-6 corner kick advantage.
Kacy Lauer led the Lakers with three shots and two on goal.
Kennedy Bearden had three shots, while
Ryann Fetty posted two shots with one on goal.
Vesna Dennison and
Alli French each added one shot on goal. Kleiver scored her first goal of the season and Reid picked up her team leading second assist of the season.

Ryann Fetty played all 90 minutes of action.
Cailynn Junk got the start in net for GVSU and earned her second shutout of the season making a season high seven saves.
The Lakers will conclude their GLIAC opening weekend against Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan on Sunday (Sept. 22). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.
