• #3 Grand Valley State will hit the road for a non-conference matchup at #22 Colorado State-Pueblo. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. (ET) Saturday (Sept. 14). CSU-Pueblo is 2-0, having won nine consecutive games, and coming off a 40-23 over #21 UT-Permian Basin. The Lakers are coming off a 58-0 victory over Central State in the 2024 season opener. 

NATIONS LEADING WINNING %
• Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 443-151-3 (.744) in 52 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 315-77-3 mark (.800). 

NCAA ATTENDANCE LEADERS
• GVSU opened the 2024 campaign with a season-opening crowd of 13,678. The Lakers the nation in total attendance (100,882) and average per game (12,610) in eight home dates in 2023. GVSU has led the nation for 12 consecutive years. 

10 WIN SEASONS
• Grand Valley State has won 10 or more games 19 times in the 52-year history of the program, including 17 times since 2001.

• The 58 points scored tied the program record for points scored in a season-opening game (58-16 at St. Joseph's College in 1990) and the 58-point margin broke the previous record of 56 (56-0 vs. Minnesota Crookston in 2001) for margin of victory in a season-opening game.

• Last Meeting - The Lakers claimed a wild 57-49 double overtime victory in 2023. GVSU jumped out to a 21-0 lead, but the Thunderwolves stormed back. 28 points were scored in the final two minutes of the second quarter. CSU-Pueblo returned a blocked field with 2:40 left, followed by a Kyle Nott 27-yard TD reception with 2:04 left. CSUP scored on a quick drive and Kellen Reed returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a TD. CSUP tied the game at 42-42 on the last play of regulation and took a 49-42 lead in overtime. QB Alex Thole hit WR Cody Tierney with a 25-yard TD pass and RB Tariq Reid scored on a 25-yard run to give the Lakers a 57-49 lead. The GVSU defense was able to get a stop on CSU-Pueblo's overtime possession to secure the win.

• Grand Valley State is 31-21 in road openers and 17-5 since 2001.

• Grand Valley State is 20-2 in regular season non-conference games since 2016.

GVSU is 8-1 all-time versus programs from the State of Colorado. 5-0 vs. Colorado State-Pueblo, 2-1 vs. Colorado School of Mines and 1-0 vs. Northern Colorado.

• GVSU has now been ranked in the top 10 of a national preseason poll 20 times since 2002 (23 polls), including 17 top five rankings and 13 top three rankings.
GVSU is 33-19 versus ranked teams since 2009 and 222-38 versus all teams as a ranked team since 2001. 

• Grand Valley State has been ranked in every AFCA Coaches' poll since September 9, 2015, a span that has reached 99 consecutive weeks.

Week 1 - 
 
• Grand Valley State shutout Central State in the season-opening game (58-0), marking the first time in Laker football history that GVSU has shutout opponents in back-to-back games regular season games at Lubbers Stadium (Davenport 30-0, 2023). 
 
• GVSU rushed for 546 yards in the season-opening game, three yards shy of the single-game, school record (549/1974 Findlay).

• The Lakers rushed for seven touchdowns vs. Central State, the most since rushing for seven vs. Notre Dame College in 2012.  

• Three running backs eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in the same game (Central State) for the first time in school history. The previous record was two that reached the 100-yard rushing mark in 2014 (Chris Robinson 126/Terrel Dorsey 109) vs. Tiffin.

• GVSU was 9-14 for 121 yards passing vs. Central State. Nine different receivers caught a pass in the game. 

• GVSU tallied 667 yards of total offense (546 rushing-121 passing) vs. Central State, the eighth-best, single-game total all-time. The Lakers notched 668 yards of total offense in 2023 vs. Kentucky State.  

• The Laker defense limited Central State to 60 rushing yards, 35 passing yards, 95 total yards and six first downs. 

• GVSU recorded 12 TFL and two QB sacks vs. Central State. 
Individual Notes...

• Sophomore running back Khalil Eichelberger rushed for 119 yards and two TDs on 18 carries vs. Central State (9/5).

• RS freshman running back Kenneth Jones tallied 116 rushing yards and one TD on 11 carries vs. Central State (9/5).

• Sophomore running back Derrick Woods rushed for 109 yards and two TDs on four carries vs. Central State (9/5). 

• RS freshman Paschal Jolman toted the ball four times for 84 yards and a TD vs. Central State (9/5). 

• QB Avery Moore rushed for 54 yards on nine carries, while completing 8-of-12 passes for 109 yards and one TD vs. Central State (9/5).   

• Nine different receivers caught a pass, led by Kyle Nott who hauled in one pass for 30 yards. Cody Tierney caught one pass for 19 yards, Drew Peterson one for 15 yards, Darrell Johnson one for 14 yards and Jordan Johnson one for 13 yards and a TD. 

• Place kicker Mathew Bacik set a freshman record with his 46 yard field goal, a freshman record. Bacik was 7-for-8 in PATs.

• FS Ian Kennelly tallied three tackles and picked off a pass vs. Central State (9/5).

• LB Anthony Cardamone recorded three tackles, 2.5 TFL and 1.0 QB sacks vs. Central State (9/5).  

• Defensive end Jake Urban notched two tackles, 1.5 TFL and 1.0 QB sacks vs. Central State (9/5).

• WR Cody Tierney has seven receptions for 145 yards and one TD, while rushing for 23 yards on four carries.

• WR Kyle Nott has two catches for 38 yards and one TD, while rushing for 45 yards and one TD on three carries. 

• WR Darrell Johnson four catches for 57 yards, two kickoff returns for 115 yards and one punt return for six yards. 

• WR Jordan Johnson has three catches for 20 yards.

• TE Gavin Cossou has two receptions for 18 yards. 

• QB Alex Thole completed 5-of-7 passes for 81 yards and an overtime TD.
