NASHVILLE – The Grand Valley State softball team began NCAA Tournament play with a 1-0 win against Ohio Dominican Thursday (May 9) on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene. The Lakers improve to 36-16 on the season.
Genesis Eggart tossed her first career no-hitter and 32
nd in program history. Eggart becomes the second Laker to throw a no-hitter this season as
Ashley Platek tossed a no-hitter March 8
th against California (Pa.).
The Lakers scored the lone run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. With outs in the inning,
Morgan Spicer doubled to left center and advanced to third on an infield single by
Kelsey Komorous. Next batter,
Jenna Ballard singled down the left field line that brought home Spicer which would end up being the game-winning run.
Eggart struck out nine and walked just two batters in the win and improved to 13-7 in the circle this season.
Liberti Fair batted 2-3 while
Morgan Spicer went 2-4 at the plate with a double and run scored.
Jenna Ballard rove in the game-winning run, while
Hannah Hollister added a hit and walk.
The Lakers advance to the winner's bracket game where they will play the two seed and host Trevecca Nazarene tomorrow (May 10) at 12:00 PM ET / 11:00 am CT.
