ALLENDALE, MICHIGAN – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the 2024 Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year on Thursday, May 30
th. The Grand Valley State Lakers were awarded two out of four honors this season, the Men's Track Athlete of the Year as well as the Men's Field Athlete of the Year.
Caleb Futter received the honor of the Men's GLIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, while
Myles Kerner secured the Men's GLIAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Caleb Futter finished out the 2024 Outdoor Track and Field season with a fifth-place finish in the men's 3000m steeplechase and a 12
th place finish in the 1500m. The Grand Valley State men's program earned a fifth-place finish overall at the 2024 NCAA Division II Nationals, with a team score of 41.5 points. At the 2024 GLIAC Championships, Futter finished in first place in the 1500m and steeplechase, earning himself the Track Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet honors. Additionally, Futter recorded a personal-best at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet in the 1500m with a time of 3:43.12, breaking the previous Grand Valley State school record.
Myles Kerner closed out the 2024 Outdoor Track and Field season as the NCAA Division II National Champion in the men's shot put. Kerner recorded a throw of 19.94m, not only crowing him the National Champion, but additionally the new Grand Valley State school record holder as well as the Welch Stadium facility record holder. The Grand Valley State men's program earned a fifth-place finish overall at the 2024 NCAA Division II Nationals, with a team score of 41.5 points. At the 2024 GLIAC Championships, Kerner finished in first place with a throw of 19.33m, as the Lakers claimed their sixth consecutive, and 17
th program total GLIAC title. Additionally, Kerner earned six first place finishes on the season, including a win at the 2024 Texas Relays. Kerner ends his season ranked first in Division II, eighth in All-Collegiate and seventh on the Division II All-Time list.
