ALLENDALE – The No. 9 Grand Valley State softball team dropped a pair of GLIAC games against Saginaw Valley State Sunday (Apr. 7) afternoon. The Lakers fall to 22-9 on the season.
Game One: L, 3-1
Saginaw Valley State got on the board in the opening inning on a bases loaded walk. The Cardinals would add to the lead in the fifth inning with two runs to go up 3-0. Saginaw Valley State scored on a sacrifice flyout and a solo home run.
The Lakers got on the board in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Morgan Spicer led the innng off with a walk followed by a double from
Kelsey Komorous to advance Spicer to third. Next batter,
Jenna Ballard scored Spicer with a sacrifice flyout to center field.
GVSU would bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh but would be unable to find the equalizer.
Genesis Eggart got the start in the circle and suffered the loss after tossing all seven innings allowing three runs off eight hits with four strikeouts.
GVSU notched five hits from five different players.
Morgan Spicer went 1-1 with a run scored and two walks.

Kelsey Komorous,
MaryJane Goodman, and
Eliana Eiland each recorded one hit.
Game Two: L, 4-0
Game two started with three scoreless innings. Saginaw Valley State got on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run to center field. The Cardinals added one run in the fifth on an RBI single to right field. SVSU launched a solo home run in the third and an RBI single in the sixth to increase the lead to 4-0.
The Lakers notched four hits in game two.
Carsyn Segorski notched a pinch-hit single down the right field line.
Morgan Spicer,
Jenna Ballard, and
Megan Koenigshof each went 1-3.
The Lakers will be back in action this coming Wednesday (Apr. 10) when they travel to Detroit for a GLIAC doubleheader against Wayne State. The Lakers will return home next Sunday (Apr. 14) when they host rival Ferris State. All four games will be streamed live on FloSports.
