GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State softball team went on the road for the final time of the regular season and swept Davenport Saturday (Apr. 20) afternoon. The Lakers won game one 7-0 before completing the sweep winning 7-2 in game two. GVSU improved to 28-13 on the season, 11-7 in the GLIAC.
Game One: W, 7-0
The Lakers got off to a fast start scoring four runs in the opening half inning.
Hannah Hollister led the game off with a single through the right side and stole second on the next at.
Morgan Spicer notched an infield single to advance Hollister to third.
Kelsey Komorous drove in Hollister on a single to right field for the games first run. With two outs.
Megan Koenigshof singled to right field to bring home Komorous. Next batter,
MaryJane Goodman tripled to right center bringing home both Ballard and Koenigshof.
GVSU would add to the lead in the fourth inning.
Eliana Eiland led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Komorous notched her second RBI of the game with a single to left field. The Lakers would open the game with two runs in the seventh to make it 7-0.
Liberti Fair doubled to left center scoring Komorous all the way from first. Two batters later, Goodman doubled to left center to bring across Fair.
Ashley Platek got the start in the circle and earned the win after tossing all seven innings allowing no runs off three hits with five strikeouts. The Lakers would notch 14 hits while holding the Panthers to three.
Kelsey Komorous went 4-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
MaryJane Goodman hit 2-4 with a double, three RBI's, and a run scored.
Eliana Eiland batted 2-3 at the plate with a run scored, while
Megan Koenigshof notched two hits with one RBI and one run scored.
Game Two: W, 7-2
GVSU got on the board in the first inning again in game two.
Hannah Hollister led off the game with a walk and stole second base. Two batters later, Komorous notched her third RBI of the day to open the scoring in game two.
Jasmine Mauk added to the lead for the Lakers in the second with an RBI single to score
Megan Koenigshof. In the bottom half of the frame, Davenport pushed across two runs to tie the game with a two-run home run to left field.
The Lakers would regain the lead in third again off the bat of Komorous. Komorous singled to right field to bring home
Hannah Hollister to make it 3-2 for her fourth RBI of the day. In the fourth inning, Komorous delivered again for the Lakers with a two-run double to increase the lead to 5-2. In the fifth inning, the Lakers scored two more runs to take a 7-2 lead. Mauk launched a two-run home run to left field for her third home run of the season.
Genesis Eggart got the start on the mound and tossed all seven innings allowing two runs off eight hits with eight strikeouts.
Jasmine Mauk batted 3-4 with a home run, double, three runs batted in, and two runs scored.
Kelsey Komorous went 2-4 at the plate with a team leading four RBI's and a double.
Hannah Hollister hit 2-2 with three runs scored and two walks, while
Carsyn Segorski notched two hits with a run scored.
The Lakers will close out the week at home tomorrow (Apr. 21) when they host Wayne State. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM at the GVSU Softball Field.
