ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State track and field program is set to host the annual Al Owens Classic this weekend beginning on Friday, April 19
th through the 20
th. The Al Owens Classic will be one of the Lakers' final home meets this season.

The Al Owens Classic will kick off at 11:00 a.m. (ET) with the start of three field events (shot put, discus and long jump) as well as four heats of the 5000m.
In the men's shot put,
Myles Kerner will be competing for the Lakers, as he holds the top entry mark. Kerner currently ranks first in Division II in the shot put with a throw of 19.67m and seventh in All-Collegiate.
In the women's shot put, Grand Valley will have five athletes competing led by
Erika Beistle. Competing alongside Beistle will be,
Mackenzie Bohrer,
Reette Thorns,
Paige Westra and
Margaret Stevenson. Four of these Lakers find themselves ranked in the Top 25 in Division II, Bohrer in ninth, Westra (20
th) , Stevenson (21
st) and Thorns (24
th).
Beistle, Stevenson and Westra will additionally be competing the women's discus throw. Beistle and Stevenson rank back to back in Division II, claiming first and second with a distance of 56.10m (Beistle) and 52.45m (Stevenson).
On the men's side,
Nathan Spitzley and James MacKey JR. will be taking on the discus throw.
The jumps crew will be in full force on Friday as they take on the men's long jump and the men's and women's high jump. Grand Valley will have four men in the long jump, led by
Chrisly Kelly-Cannon, the current school record holder.
In the men's high jump, the men's trio will be taking on their first home outdoor meet of the season led by
Jaivon Harrison, the current school record holder. All three men find themselves in the Top 10, Harrison in first (2.26m),
Eli Kosiba in fourth (2.16m) and
Jonathan Rankins-James in sixth (2.15m).
On the track, the sprints crew will have a men's and women's relay team in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay. The men's 4x100 team will consist of
Antonio Passarelli,
Max Darling,
Andrew Pizzico and
Myles Rhodes, while the women's 4x100 will be made up of
Melia Williams,
Taylor Kyle,
Catherine Guckenberger and
Kate Zang.
In the 4x400m, the men's team will showcase
Steven Harris,
Zach Pray,
Fallou Gaye and
Myles Rhodes, while the women's squad will consist of
Isabel Abdouch,
Catherine Guckenberger,
Ashtyn Gluck and
Kate Zang.
Additionally, the Lakers' sprints crew will take on the 100m, 200m, and both sets of hurdles. The distance crew will be competing in the 800m, 1500m and steeplechase.
