UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Grand Valley State softball team picked up two big GLIAC road wins against Saginaw Valley State Thursday (Apr. 18) afternoon. The Lakers won game one 3-1 before completing the doubleheader sweep in game two winning 2-1. GVSU improved to 26-13 on the season and 9-7 in the GLIAC.
Game One: W, 3-1
Saginaw Valley State struck first in the opening inning, taking an early 1-0 lead after a wild pitch. The Lakers got on the board in the fifth inning to tie the game at one.
Morgan Spicer singled that brought home
Eliana Eiland. In the seventh inning,
Kelsey Komorous launched a two-run home run to right field to give the Lakers their first lead of the game at 3-1. The home run was Komorous's fourth of the season.
Ashley Platek would retire the Cardinals in order in the bottom of the seventh to claim the game one win.
Hannah Hollister went 3-4 at the plate with a run scored.
Morgan Spicer batted 2-4 with an RBI.
Kelsey Komorous launched the game-winning two-run home run.

Liberti Fair, and
Eliana Eiland each recorded a hit in the win.
Ashley Platek got the start in the circle and earned the win. Platek tossed all seven innings allowing just one run off eight hits with two strikeouts.
Game Two: W, 2-1
The Lakers opened the scoring in the third inning. GVSU loaded the bases for
Kelsey Komorous who notched a single to left field scoring both
Jasmine Mauk and
Eliana Eiland. Saginaw Valley State got on the board in the bottom half of the inning off a sacrifice fly to left field to cut the Laker lead to 2-1.
In the seventh inning, Saginaw Valley State would get the tying run on third and the winning run on second with two outs, but
Nevaeh Ingram got the Cardinals to groundout to clinch the 2-1 win and the doubleheader sweep.
Ingram got the win and improved to 6-0 in the circle this season after tossing all seven innings allowing just one run off four hits with two strikeouts.
Kelsey Komorous went 1-3 both runs batted in for the Lakers.
Jasmine Mauk notched a hit and scored a run.
Liberti Fair and
Nevaeh Ingram each recorded a hit.
The Lakers will hit the road again for the final time in the regular season when they face Davenport in a GLIAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 20
th. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The games will be streamed live on FloSports.
