GVSU Claims 9-7 Win Over Purdue Northwest To Take Season Series

Grand Valley State claimed a 9-7 win over Purdue Northwest Sunday afternoon at the GVSU Baseball Field. The Lakers claimed the season series 4-2 and went 3-1 versus the Pride over the weekend. 
 
GVSU scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the second. DH Jonas Gulbrandsen singled to open the inning, followed by a double off the bat of 1B Connor McCormack. Gulbrandsen scored on a ground and McCormack scored on a wild pitch. 2B Ayden VanEnkevort walked, LF Ryan Dykstra singled to center and CF Kyle Nott singled to right center to score VanEnkevort. Nott stole second and Dykstra scored on sac fly by Schuman. Nott scored on a balk to complete the inning. 
 
The Pride came back with four runs in the top of the third and tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the fourth. The Lakers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth when VanEnkevort singled, followed by a Nott single to right center. VanEnkevort scored on a throwing error and Nott scored on a Logan single to right field. 
 
GVSU added a run in the bottom of the fifth when Gulbrandsen doubled and scored on a single to left by 3B Jake Rydquist
 
PNW scored two in the top of the sixth to pull within one, but GVSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Nott singled and scored from first on a double to right center by SS Connor Schuman
 
Rile, who enduced a 643 double play with runners on first and third to end the game, picked up the win, yielding three runs with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings out of the bullpen. 
 
Nott was 3-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Schuman was 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Rydquist was 1-4 with two RBI and McCormack was 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Gulbrandsen was 3-4 with a double and two runs scored. His first hit of the afternoon was the 100th of his career. Dykstra was 2-5 with a run scored, Logan was 2-5 with an RBI and VanEnkevort was 1-3 with two runs scored.
