Lakers host MTU in GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals Wednesday

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team begins postseason play tomorrow (Mar. 6) when they host five seeded Michigan Tech in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal round. Tipoff is set for 8:00 PM at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

The Lakers finished in fourth place in the GLIAC standings with an 11-7 mark. The Lakers finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak, including wins against the top three teams in the GLIAC standings. GVSU ended the regular season defeating Northern Michigan 106-99 in a thrilling double overtime finish. The Lakers then ended the season with a 92-86 win at Michigan Tech.
 
Marius Grazulis was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week last weekend. Grazulis notched his fifth double-double of the season scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Northern Michigan. He tied a career high 24 points in the win at Michigan Tech. Britain Harris scored a career high 24 points in both wins over NMU and MTU and has now scored at least 20 points in three of the last four games.
 
GVSU is making their 26th overall appearance in the GLIAC Tournament. The Lakers are 28-18 overall and have won seven championships with the last being in 2019 when they were the seven seed. 
 
Michigan Tech earned the five seed and will come to Allendale with an 11-16 overall record and 8-10 GLIAC mark. The Lakers swept the season series against the Huskies this season. Michigan Tech is led by Marcus Tomashek who led the GLIAC in scoring averaging 22.5 points per game. Dan Gherezgher averaged 14.5 points a game and scored 25 points against the Lakers last game. The Huskies averaged just under 73 points a game and shot 45% from the field this season.
