No. 7 Lakers Split Wednesday Doubleheader at Lewis

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The No. 7 Grand Valley State softball team split Wednesday's doubleheader at Lewis with both games going to extra innings. The Lakers won game one 8-5 in eight innings before falling 2-1 in eight innings in game two. The Lakers moved to 19-6 on the season. 
 
Game One: W, 8-5
 
The Lakers opened the scoring in the second inning off the bat of Eliana Eiland. Eiland singled to center field, scoring Megan Koenigshof for the game's first run. Lewis quickly answered by tying the game in the bottom half of the inning. 
 
GVSU would regain the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Koenigshof doubled to left field to score Jenna Ballard. Next batter, Eiland singled to right field scoring both MaryJane Goodman and Koenigshof. 
 
Lewis added one run in the fifth inning to cut the Laker lead to 4-2. GVSU would retake a three-run lead in the fifth inning off an RBI single by Liberti Fair that scored Goodman. Lewis would respond with a two-run double in the sixth to cut the Laker lead to one and would tie the game in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
 
In the eighth inning, GVSU would score three runs to take an 8-5 lead. Fair put the Lakers back in front with an RBI triple to center field scoring Eiland. Carsyn Segorski hit a pinch-hit ground-rule double that scored Fair followed by a Hannah Hollister single to center field that scored Faith Edwards.
 
The Lakers would hang on for the three-run win in eight innings. Genesis Eggart got the start in the circle and earned the win to improve to 7-1 on the season. Eggart tossed all eight innings allowing five runs with seven strikeouts. 
 
Eliana Eiland went 3-3 with a double, three RBI, and a run scored. MaryJane Goodman batted 2-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Liberti Fair hit 2-4 at the plate with a triple, two RBI, and a run scored. Megan Koenigshof and Carsyn Segorski each added an RBI double. 
 
Game Two: L, 2-1
 
After four scoreless innings to start the game, Kelsey Komorous put the Lakers on the board with an RBI single to left field that scored MaryJane Goodman. Lewis would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh innings to send the game into extra's. The Flyers would hold the Lakers in the eighth and would walk it off in the bottom half to secure the win.
 
Ashley Platek got the start in the circle and suffered the loss allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts. Hannah Hollister went 3-4 at the plate with a stolen base, while Jenna Ballard batted 2-4. Kelsey Komorous drove in the lone run for the Lakers.
