MARION, INDIANA – The Grand Valley State track and field program finished off their two day meet down in Marion, IN hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. The Polar Bear Classic began on Friday, March 22
nd and went through Saturday the 23
rd with majority of the Lakers competing on day two.
Final Results
On the track, the sprints crew claimed a combined total of 11 Top 10 finishes on the men's and women's side this weekend.
For the men,
Antonio Passarelli led the Lakers in the 100m dash recording a new personal-best time of 10.76 and claiming first place overall.
Andrew Pizzico finished in fourth place with a time of 10.86 followed by
Henry Kennedy in seventh in a time of 10.96.
Dominik Balenda earned third place in the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.83.
Lance Riddle finished in ninth place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.27 and 16
th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.84.
Additionally, the men's 4x100m relay team consisting of all freshmen,
Henry Kennedy,
Dominik Balenda,
Andrew Pizzico and
Chrisly Kelly-Cannon took home first place with a time of 42.34.
On the women's side, freshman
Taylor Kyle claimed her first ever first place finish as a Laker in the women's 100m, Kyle recorded a time of 12.16. In the 200m,
Destini Dorkins finished in eighth place with a time of 26.59.
Additionally, Dorkins earned second place in the 100m hurdles with a new personal-best time of 14.76.
Kennedy Gardner finished in fifth place with a time of 16.13. In the 400m hurdles,
Leeyah Samuels claimed seventh place with a time of 1:11.38.
In the field, the women's pole vault team finished with all their Lakers in the Top 10 led by
Taylor DeHommel. DeHommel finished in second place, clearing a height of 4.05m.
Miranda Firari finished in fifth place with a height of 3.65m,
Lily Renfrew in sixth at a height of 3.40m,
Rileigh Lacy in ninth with a height of 3.40m and
Kendyl Hahlen in 10
th clearing a height of 3.25m.
In the women's high jump, Grand Valley finished with three athletes in the Top 10.
Joslyn Bentz and
Sydney Cangilla both cleared the bar at 1.55m, earning fourth (Bentz) and sixth (Cangilla). While
Abigail DenOuden finished in 10
th place clearing a height of 1.50m.
On the men's side,
Caleb Taylor took home first place in the long jump with a distance of 7.10m followed by
Ian Trall in 10
th jumping a distance of 6.09m and
Mason Floria in 12
th with a distance of 5.97m.
The men's pole vault team finished with seven Lakers in the Top 10, four of those in the Top 5.
Wyatt Alwine,
James Nutt,
Max Rauch and
Dolan Gonzales all cleared a height of 4.80m, earning 1 – 4 for Grand Valley.
Jacob Krutsch finished in sixth place with a height of 4.55m, followed by
David Conrad in eighth clearing a height of 4.25m and
Ryan Eck in 10
th at a height of 4.10m.
The Lakers will travel to Texas, North Carolina and Ohio to compete in four different meets over a span of three days starting on Thursday, March 28
th.
