ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the first time since 2005, the GVSU women's basketball team will be at home for an NCAA Tournament game. The Lakers are the number one seed in the Midwest Regional, and they open play Friday evening against eighth-seeded Trevecca Nazarene at 5:00.

This is the ninth consecutive season that the Lakers have reached NCAA postseason play. During that timeframe, they have won two regional titles, making trips to the Final Four in both of those seasons. All those years have been under the direction of head coach
Mike Williams, who has a record of 14-7 in the NCAA Tournament. GVSU has won one National Championship in their history, taking the crown in the 2005-06 season.
GVSU swept through the GLIAC Tournament last weekend, taking down Purdue Northwest, Parkside, and Northern Michigan in the process. Those three wins moved their Lakers to 29-2 overall and gave them a 14-game winning streak going into the NCAA Tournament.
Rylie Bisballe was named GLIAC Tournament MVP as she averaged 16 points and 10.7 rebounds, recording two double-doubles.
Hadley Miller was also a member of the all-tournament team, recording 10 ppg and helping shut down the opposing team's best perimeter player.
Nicole Kamin averaged 13 points over the three games, and
Abrie Cabana scored 14 points in the championship game.
Trevecca Nazarene is in the tournament for the second year in a row, earning the eighth seed this year. The Trojans went 19-11 this year, finishing as the runner-up to Ashland in the GMAC Tournament. Last year they were the fourth seed in the region, advancing to the regional semifinals. They enter the tournament this year, losing four of their past seven games. TNU has a high-powered offense, scoring 75.8 points a game, ranking 14
th in the country, led by four double-figure scorers. The top scorer is senior guard Keeley Carter, who is scoring 21.3 points on shooting splits of 47.3%/37.3%/83.3%. Also, in double-figures are Faith Wilken, Konnor Gambrell, and Lili Wilken. Carter, Faith Wilken, and Gambrell are three of their top rebounders as well. This will be the first ever meeting between GVSU and the Trojans.
