Lakers Claim Program’s 1,000th Win with Season Sweep Over Davenport

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team earned win number 1,000th in program history with a dominate 82-65 win over Davenport Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon. The Lakers complete the season sweep over the Panthers and improve to 6-4 in the GLIAC and 9-11 overall. 
 
Ethan Alderink led the Lakers with a career high 19 points, while hauling in a game high 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. William Dunn scored 15 points on 5-7 shooting including three triples. Jalen Charity scored a career high 13 points on 6-8 shooting from the field and four rebounds. Britain Harris added 12 points on 4-7 shooting.
 
In the first half, Ethan Alderink led the way with 15 points and four rebounds on a perfect 6-6 shooting from the field. William Dunn scored 13 points, knocking down three triples. The Lakers got off to a fast 9-2 start. Mason Docks knocked down a three on the first possession for GVSU followed by driving layups made by Trevor Smith and Ethan Alderink.
 
Davenport would go on a run to take a 12-11 lead off an and one with just over 13 minutes to go in the half. The Lakers would respond with a 9-2 run led by back-to-back triples by Dunn and a dunk by Jalen Charity. Dunn would later knock down his third triple of the half to give the Lakers a double-digit lead at 29-19. GVSU would go on a 10-0 run late in the half to take their largest lead of the game at 47-28 and would head to locker room with a 15-point lead.
 
In the second half, Davenport started the half on a 10-3 run to cut the Laker lead to eight. GVSU answered with an 11-0 run to get the lead back up to 19. Charity started the run with an and one followed by a layup by Harris and a steal and layup by Smith. GVSU would end up going on a 17-2 run to go up 69-46.
 
Davenport would cut the Lakers lead back to 12 with a 11-2 run with over five minutes remaining. The Lakers would close the game on a 13-7 run to earn the 17-point win. 
 
The Lakers will be back on the road next week when they travel to face Wayne State on Thursday (Feb. 8) and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Feb. 10). Both games will be streamed live on FloSports.
