ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the third time in his collegiate career,
Eli Kosiba has been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week, as announced by the national office on Monday evening. His national record-tying 2.30m (7-6.5) high jump height to open the season secured him the weekly honor.
The graduate student began competition on Friday with a height of 1.84m (6-0.5). Five attempts later, Kosiba reached 2.24m (7-4.5) – already breaking his previous record of 2.23m (7-3.8).
Kosiba went from the 2.24m to 2.30m (7-6.5), opting to pass the 2.27m mark (7-5.4). With some motivation from the crowd and a few deep breaths, Kosiba easily cleared the NCAA Division II indoor high jump record on his second attempt. It took him just eight attempts to do so.
This marks the third time Kosiba has been named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week during the indoor track & field season. He previously earned the honor on January 24, 2023 and February 20, 2024.
