Track & Field Kicks Off 2024-25 Indoor Season with GVSU Holiday Open

ALLENDALE, MICH. – Grand Valley State's men's and women's track and field teams open the 2024-25 indoor season on Friday, December 8th as they host the annual GVSU Holiday Open. The meet begins at 1 p.m. in the Kelly Family Sports Center. The day begins with pole vault for field events, and the 5000m on the track.

As the season begins, both teams look to defend their GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championship titles. During the 2024 indoor season, the men added their sixth consecutive and 23rd total indoor conference title to their resume with 279 points.  The women claimed their 25th consecutive GLIAC indoor title, recording a team score of 250.5 points.

Grand Valley's indoor squads are coming off second and fourth place finishes at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The men's team was named National Runner-Up with a total of 56.5 points. The women's squad grabbed fourth with a team score of 48 points.

A National Runner-Up title wasn't the only impressive finish the Laker men had last season. Myles Kerner defended his indoor National title in shot put, winning gold with a distance of 19.31m. Jaivon Harrison secured an individual crown of his own, clearing a height of 2.19m to be named the 2024 Division II Men's High Jump Champion. Caleb Futter was the last of the men's crew to grab gold. His 4:18.02 finish in the mile secured him a spot at the top of the podium.

The Laker ladies added one individual National Championship title to the record book in the 2024 indoor season. Erika Beistle threw a distance of 16.37 in women's shot put, granting her gold.

One Laker lady to watch in the track season is individual women's cross country National Champion Lauren Kiley. The junior went undefeated through three races in the 2024 cross country season – all of which were championships.
