D2CCA Super Region 3 Honors Six Laker Football Players

Three named to the first-team and three earn second-team honors

The 2024 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association announced the Super Region 3 All-Region teams, and six Grand Valley State Lakers were honored, including three on the D2CCA Super Region 3 First-Team. Senior offensive linemen Gabe Brown and Kyler Blake-Jones were joined by junior cornerback Devin Pringle on the first-team, while senior safety Ian Kennelly, junior linebacker Anthony Cardamone and junior defensive end Niles King were second-team honorees. Grand Valley State finished the 2024 campaign 11-2 overall and advanced to the NCAA DII Playoff second round.

Senior lineman Gabe Brown, who is a 2024 Gene Upshaw Award finalist, was a versatile performer on the offensive front. He was an integral piece in a GVSU rushing game that led the GLIAC, ranked seventh nationally (247.2 ypg.) and rushed for over 235 yards in eight games. Brown was adept at both run and pass blocking, evidenced by his 96.3 efficiency rating for the regular season. Brown was named the 2024 GLIAC Offensive Lineman of the Year and a two-time First-Team All-GLIAC performer. Kyler Blake-Jones graded out with a 96.7 efficiency rating and joined Brown to form one of the best offensive lines in the country. Blake-Jones was an All-GLIAC first team performer and started each of his last 39 games at center. Very few teams threw the ball to Pringle's side of the field, but teams did attempt to run in his direction and that enabled him to rank fourth on the team in tackles with 44. Pringle did record six pass breakups and was a leader in a secondary that ranked second nationally by allowing 121.6 yards per game passing and notched an 85.95 passing efficiency rating on defense. GVSU set a school-record by not allowing a completed pass in two games (Northern Michigan and Harding) during the 2024 season.

Kennelly, who was a First-Team All-GLIAC performer, ranked second on the team in tackles with 64, while picking off three passes and notching three pass breakups. Kennelly was a leader in a secondary that ranked second nationally by allowing 121.6 yards per game passing and notched an 85.95 passing efficiency rating on defense. GVSU set a school-record by not allowing a completed pass in two games (Northern Michigan and Harding) during the 2024 season. Cardamone led the squad in tackles with 80 and tallied 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 quarterback sacks. Cardamone, who was a First-Team All-GLIAC honoree for the second consecutive year, keyed a Laker defense that ranked among the national leaders in nearly every defensive category.  King recorded 35 total tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss (-51), 8.5 quarterback sacks (-46) and 10 QB hurries.
