ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team hosts Illinois Springfield to close out the 2024 calendar year Friday (Dec. 19) evening. Tipoff is set for 5:00 PM at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
GVSU is 6-3 on the season entering the final game of 2024. The Lakers fell 88-86 last game at Indianapolis in double overtime.
Kaden Brown tied a GVSU single-game record with eight made three-pointers. Brown led GVSU with a career high 32 points off the bench.
The Lakers are averaging 79.8 points per game as a team this season shooting 47% from the field. GVSU has outrebounded their opponents in eight of the nine games and have a rebounding margin of +9.
Kaden Brown leads GVSU in scoring averaging 13.2 points a game on 44% shooting from the field and 44% shooting from three. Brown leads the Lakers with 26 made three-pointers and is second with nine steals.
William Dunn has scored 12.2 points on 46% shooting from the field and a team leading 5.2 rebounds. Dunn cored 18 points last game at Indianapolis and tied a career high 23 points in the win against Aquinas.
Jalen Charity has notched 10.8 points on a team best 58% shooting from the field. Charity is fourth averaging 3.9 rebounds and leads GVSU with 10 blocks.
Mason Docks leads GVSU with 46 assists, while scoring 8.8 points a game. Docks dished out eight assists with zero turnovers at Indianapolis Monday night. Docks has dished out at least five assists in four games this season.
Illinois Springfield enters their final game of the 2024 calendar year with a 5-6 overall record. The Prairie Stars defeated Purdue Northwest at the buzzer in their last game. Illinois Springfield is scoring 73 points a game on 50% shooting from the field and 39% shooting from three.
Max Kunnert leads the Prairie Stars in scoring averaging 15.8 points and 4.5 rebounds a game. Kunnert is shooting 47% from the field and 83% from the free throw line. The senior has scored in double figures in 10 out of the 11 games including a 28-point game against Missouri – St. Louis. Jack Weber is scoring 12.2 points and has dished out a team best 29 assists. Weber is shooting 50% from the field and scored a season best 24 points against Maryville. Khalil Ross is averaging 10.1 points on 47% shooting with 4.9 rebounds.
