lCOLUMBUS, OHIO – The GVSU women's basketball team finished out their three-game roadtrip with a matchup against Division I nationally-ranked Ohio State. The Buckeyes got out strong, and held off the Lakers from there, winning 82-57. The loss drops GVSU to 11-1 with one more nonconference game to go.
After OSU got the first four points of the game,
Rylie Bisballe put the Lakers on the board with a layup, getting an assist from
Abrie Cabana. The Buckeyes responded with a 27-8 run to end the quarter, leading 31-10.
GVSU opened the second quarter on a 7-4 run, getting a triple from
Nicole Kamin in the middle of the scoring run. That was followed by a 9-1 Ohio State run to close out the half, with the Buckeyes up 44-18.
The Laker offense started to find their groove in the third quarter, getting a three from
Kathryn Schmidt and two from
Avery Zeinstra all before the media timeout. Later in the quarter, Cabana scored five straight points and
Molly Anderson connected from deep, as the Lakers outscored OSU 25-20 in the quarter, still trailing 64-43.
Cabana drained another three-pointer to put the Lakers on the board in the fourth quarter, then hit another jumper for a personal 5-0 scoring run. Bisballe, Schmidt,
Paige Vanstee,
Lauren Slagle, and
Sydney Cherney rounded out the scoring in the quarter for GVSU.
Abrie Cabana led the Lakers with 14 points, shooting 4-8 from the floor, while adding three assists.
Avery Zeinstra scored eight points, hitting two threes, with
Paige Vanstee adding seven.
Rylie Bisballe grabbed seven rebounds and
Lexi Plitzuweit had six boards and three assists.
