#1 Lakers Stay on the Road to Play Quincy and Drury

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team continues their month of December on the road, traveling to Illinois to play Quincy on Friday then Drury on Sunday. The game against Quincy will be a true road game, while the Drury contest will be on a neutral site of the University of Illinois.

The Lakers are the top-ranked team in the country, entering the weekend a perfect 9-0 overall and 2-0 in league play. They defeated SVSU 93-36 last Thursday and then Wayne State 80-59 on Saturday. Rylie Bisballe was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, as she scored 31 points, shooting 55% from the floor, while adding seven rebounds, six assists, five steals, and three blocks. MacKenzie Bisballe, Ellie Droste, Megan Crow, and Nicole Kamin all scored in double-figures at least once over the weekend. The Lakers have started 9-0 for the second time in three seasons, as they began the 2022-23 year a perfect 12-0.
 
 Starting off the weekend is a contest at Quincy. The Hawks are 6-3 overall and 1-2 in GLVC play. They have dropped two of their past three games, falling to Upper Iowa and Drury in that span, allowing over 80 points in both losses. Pacing the offense is the GLVC's second-leading scorer Nicole McDermott at 18.3 ppg. Two other Hawks are in double-figures, with Mariann Boss and Taylor Haase both over 10 a contest. Quincy has dominated the glass thus far this season, beating their opponents by almost 14 rebounds a game, winning the battle on the glass in all eight games. The Lakers and Hawks have not met up since 2016, when the Lakers won 83-45.
 
In a battle of consistent Midwest region powers, GVSU takes on Drury at the University of Illinois. Drury is 6-2, dropping their season-opener to Ferris State, then winning six of their next seven. They have won all three games in GLVC play, defeating Southwest Baptist, Quincy, and Truman State. The Panthers average over 80 points a game, led by two in double-figures, with Rhi Gibbons scoring 16.1 and Caitlynn Daniels averaging 14. They shoot over 46% from the floor and 39% from deep, making over seven a game. The Lakers and the Panthers last played in the 2023 Midwest Regional semifinals, with GVSU winning 61-53.
