ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball begins their home schedule this weekend, taking on Ohio Dominican and Walsh. The Lakers have begun the season 3-0, ranked third in the country.

Prior to the game on Saturday, GVSU will celebrate Senior Day, honoring five players and two student assistants. The five players are
Rylie Bisballe,
Abrie Cabana,
Ellie Droste,
Hadley Miller, and
Kathryn Schmidt. The two student assistants are
Alia Burgess and
Jordyn Roberts. This group has amassed over 100 wins, won three GLIAC Championships, and went to four NCAA Tournaments, going on a run to the Final Four in 2022.
The Lakers had a strong start to the season last week in Montana. They won all three games they played, defeating Findlay by 42, #6 MSUB by 17, and eighth-ranked Union by 26.
Rylie Bisballe,
Ellie Droste, and
Abrie Cabana were all named to the All-Tournament team, with Bisballe taking home MVP honors. All three averaged double-figures over the weekend. GVSU has now begun a season 3-0 for the sixth consecutive season.
Ohio Dominican will be opening their season this weekend. The Panthers were 7-21 a season ago and were picked to finish 11
th out of 13 teams in the GMAC Preseason poll. New head coach Brianna Sims will have the benefit of having 12 returnees from last season, including their top four scorers. Leading the way is First-Team All-GMAC Gabby Stare, who averaged over 16 points on 50% shooting. GVSU has not played Ohio Dominican since 2016, winning the last three matchups.
Walsh will also be beginning their season this weekend, opening Saturday against Davenport, then turning around to play the Lakers on Sunday. The Cavaliers were picked eighth in the preseason GMAC poll following their 8-18 season. Returning scorer Kiley Dyrlund was selected to the GMAC Preseason Second-Team. She led Walsh with 12.7 points and 5.4 rebounds last year. The Lakers last played the Cavaliers in the 2022 Midwest Regional Championship game, defeating them 64-61 to advance to the Elite Eight.
