#12 Lakers Close Out Regular Season With Victory Over Roosevelt

Box Score CHICAGO, ILL. – The Grand Valley State volleyball team closed out the regular season this afternoon, defeating Roosevelt in four sets. The Lakers enter the postseason with a 25-2 record, the two seed in this week's upcoming GLIAC tournament.
 
GVSU took the match by the scores of 25-11, 29-31, 25-17, 25-15. With the score tied at nine in the opening set, Grand Valley went on a 16-2 run to end the set and go up 1-0. In the second set, GVSU held an 18-11 lead, but Roosevelt came back to take a 24-23 lead. GVSU forced extra points but could not close it out and Roosevelt tied the match at one.
 
In the third set, GVSU again got out hot, going up 11-3. RU could not mount any comeback, only getting as close as six the rest of the way, and GVSU took back the lead in the match. Roosevelt held a slim 7-6 lead to begin the fourth set, but Grand Valley State went on a 9-0 run to take a 15-7 advantage. They never looked back from there, closing out the match with a kill from Brianna Stawski.
 
Kendall Stover had another strong offensive night, tallying 15 kills on a .387 hitting percentage. Meghan O'Sullivan tallied 12 kills and 19 assists, swinging at a .579 clip. Brianna Stawski had seven kills and four blocks up front. Caroline Baker dished out 23 assists and Julia Blaney had 15 digs. The Lakers served 16 aces, with Baker serving five, O'Sullivan having four, and McKenzie Johnson adding three.
 
GVSU will take on Davenport Wednesday in Allendale at 6:00 for their GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal round.
