The Lakers will await NCAA DII Playoff Bid Announcement

#4 Grand Valley State claimed a 34-21 victory over Roosevelt University in Arlington Heights, Illinois Saturday afternoon. The Lakers improve to 10-1 on the year heading into the NCAA playoffs. GVSU entered the final week of the season ranked second in Super Region 3 and seeds two, three and four would host first-round games on Saturday, November 23. Grand Valley State has now won 10 or more games in a season 20 times in the 53-year history of the program and the Lakers' 2024 senior class won 10 games for the fourth consecutive year, marking the eighth time in school history that a senior class won 10 or more games in four consecutive years.

The Lakers got rolling in the first quarter following an interception by sophomore safety Jason Hardy. The offense produced a 7-play, 38-yard scoring drive that Khalil Eichelberger finished with a 3-yard touchdown run. All 38 yards were via the running game. The Laker offense used another turnover to push its lead to 14-0. Senior safety Kobe Hayward recovered a fumble and GVSU drove 48 yards in 13 plays for the score. Senior QB Avery Moore hit senior wide receiver Kyle Nott with a touchdown pass tin the back of the endzone that covered six yards and Mathew Bacik added his second PAT.

GVSU pushed its lead to 17-0 midway through the second quarter with an 8-play, 37-yard scoring drive that Bacik finished with a 28-yard field goal.

Roosevelt scored a touchdown with under a minute in the second quarter to pull within 17-7 score at the half.

The Laker defense forced a three-and-out on Roosevelt's opening possession in the second half and the offense drove 52 yards in 8 plays for a touchdown. Junior Ike Udengwu hit tight end Harrison Hunger 3-yard touchdown pass and Bacik added the PAT for a 24-7 GVSU lead. Udengwu hit senior WR Darrell Johnson with a 35-yard pass to the Roosevelt 1-yard line prior to the score.

Udengwu hit wide receiver Darrell Johnson with a key third down pickup to keep a drive alive on the Lakers' next possession and Nott added a rush for 24-yard before Bacik hit a 32-yard field goal to up the lead to 27-7.  Junior defensive tackle Thomas Jolly returned a Niles King tipped pass 45 yards for a touchdown to conclude the scoring for Grand Valley State. Roosevelt scored two fourth quarter touchdowns for the final margin.
