BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 18 Grand Valley State women's soccer team claimed a 2-0 shutout win on the road against Ferris State Sunday (Oct. 27) afternoon. The win marked the Lakers fourth consecutive shutout win and are now 10-1-3 on the season and 7-1-2 in the GLIAC.
GVSU opened the scoring in the 16
th minute off the foot of
Taylor Reid for her first goal of the season. The Lakers had a free kick where the ball got deflected in the box and went to Fetty who made a great pass to Reid to kick it in the wide-open net. Fetty picked up her fourth assist of the season.
In the second half, GVSU put the game away in the 79
th minute.
Kendall Aikens headed a ball in off a great cross by
Alex Williams. That goal was Aikens first collegiate goal as Williams dished her third assist of the season.
GVSU outshot Ferris State 15-12 and 6-2 on goal, while corner kicks were even at five apiece.
Taylor Reid led the Lakers with the game-winning goal and four shots.
Ryann Fetty and
Alex Williams dished out an assist and notched two shots each. Dawn Louwerse,
Mackenzie Ford,
Kacy Lauer, and
Alex Williams played all 90 minutes in the win.
Cailynn Junk got the start in goal and posted her fifth individual shutout of the season making two saves.
The Lakers will be back in action next weekend with one game on the road and one game at home. GVSU will travel to Roosevelt before hosting Davenport. Both games will be streamed live on FloSports.
