ALLENDALE, MICH. - The GVSU women's volleyball team is back home this weekend in a return to GLIAC play, taking on Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. They play the Wildcats Friday evening, then take on the Huskies Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers went 3-0 at the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament last weekend, defeating Walsh, Lewis, and UMSL in four sets each. The three wins propelled them to #13 nationally in the AVCA poll. Meghan O'Sullivan and Jordyn Gates both were named to the All-Tournament teams, after each tallied a triple-double in all three contests. Julia Blaney earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after she totaled 67 digs, moving her into the top 10 in program history with 1,218 digs.
Tied with the Lakers for second in the conference at 7-1 is Northern Michigan. The Wildcats have only lost to Ferris State in league play, and since that loss they have won seven of their past eight games, dropping one to Rockhurst at the Crossover. Jacqueline Smith earned a spot on the All-Tournament team, tallying 48 kills over the three matches. Setter Allie Barlow, recording 131 assists on the weekend to surpass over 1,000 career assists. Her 738 assists lead the conference. GVSU beat the Wildcats in both matchups last season, winning in four sets on the road and in a sweep at home.
The Michigan Tech Huskies have had an up and down season thus far. They won their first four matches, then five of six, followed up with a three-game winning streak, and most recently they have gone 3-2 in their past five. They are 11-7 overall and 5-3 in league play, sitting in fourth in the conference. Setter Tess Hayes leads the GLIAC in both assists per set and aces per set and earned a spot on the Crossover All-Tournament team. Her main set is Meg Raabe, who has tallied 231 kills this season. The Lakers and the Wildcats split the two matchups last season, with both teams winning at home.
