Women's Volleyball to Play Wayne State and Roosevelt in Weekend GLIAC Action

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball returns to the court for two more GLIAC matchups this weekend. They travel to Wayne State on Thursday night, then come back home to play Roosevelt on Saturday afternoon.

GVSU is on a three-game winning streak, as they have moved to 3-1 in GLIAC play, and 11-1 overall. In their first two road games of the conference slate, they swept LSSU and SVSU last weekend. Over the two games, Kendall Stover and Jordyn Gates each recorded 15 kills, with Stover adding 20 digs, and Gates having 36 assists and 20 digs. The wins kept them ranked 16th in the AVCA poll for the third consecutive week.
 
Wayne State enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak, defeating both SVSU and LSSU last weekend. They are 5-6 overall, but 3-1 in league play, with the lone loss coming at the hands of Ferris State. The Warriors are led by two attackers in Molly Miller (165 kills), and Kayla Giroux, who leads the conference in hitting percentage (.427) and total blocks (55). Setter Kayla Dugger is third in the conference with 399 assists, and libero Kendyl Andrews is seventh with 148 digs. The Lakers swept Wayne State in both matchups last season. Gates combined for 29 kills and 31 assists, with Brianna Stawski adding 14 kills and nine blocks in the two games.
 
Roosevelt is in their first year as a member of the GLIAC, and the Lakers are off to a 1-11 start. Their lone win of the season came in their second game of the year, a 3-1 victory over Malone. They have not won a set outside of that match, and they are 0-4 in GLIAC play, getting swept by LSSU, SVSU, Purdue Northwest, and Parkside. RU is hitting .095 as a team, ranking them bottom 10 in all of Division II. Viktoria Marysheva leads the offense with 106 kills, while Yulia Shchepkina has 77. Zoe Hutchinson has dished out 249 assists and Cydney Martinez leads the team with 95 digs.
