TOLEDO, Ohio – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with a 76-71 loss at Toledo Saturday (Oct. 19) afternoon. The Lakers will travel to play an exhibition at Nebraska next Sunday (Oct. 27) at 2:00 PM ET.
William Dunn led the Lakers in scoring with 13 points on 4-11 shooting from the field including three three-pointers and five rebounds.
Jalen Charity scored 11 points on 4-6 shooting and 2-2 from behind the arc.
Mason Docks notched 10 points and dished out four assists to lead the team.
Kaden Brown added eight points with two made triples and two assists.
In the first half, GVSU trailed by as many as 12 points, but battled back to trail by just eight points at the end of the half off a tough bucket by Docks In the second half, the Lakers trailed by as many as 17 points in the and battled back to cut the deficit to just two with over three minutes to play.
GVSU shot 40% from the field and 42% from three with a 11 made three-pointers. Toledo shot 48% from the field and 20% from three, while going 26-37 from the free throw line. The Lakers outrebounded Toledo 39-31 and pulled down 12 offensive rebounds while holding the Rockets to seven.
