ALLENDALE – The No. 24 Grand Valley State women's soccer team claimed a 2-0 shutout victory at home against Roosevelt Friday (Oct. 18) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 8-1-3 on the season and 5-1-2 in the GLIAC.
GVSU dominated from start to finish out shooting Roosevelt 33-1, while producing a season high 22 corner kicks. The Lakers notched 12 shots on goal and did not allow Roosevelt to get a shot on goal.
Ella Kleiver opened the scoring for the Lakers in the 25
th minute for her second goal of the season. Kleiver received a great pass from
Ryann Fetty in the box and kicked it past the goalkeeper with the right foot at the bottom right corner of the goal.
Three minutes later, Kleiver doubled the Laker lead for her second of the game and third of the season.
Taylor Reid played the ball for Kleiver at the top left corner of the box. Kleiver kicked it up and over the keeper with the right foot at the top right corner of the goal.
Kleiver led the Lakers offensively, scoring both goals and firing off a career high seven shots with two on goal.
Taylor Reid dished out her team leading fourth assist of the season, while
Ryann Fetty dished out her second assist of the season.
Sarah Fromm notched five shots with one on goal, while
Kendall Aikens had four shots.
Cailynn Junk got the start in goal and notched her fifth individual shutout of the season.
GVSU will close out the weekend on Sunday (Oct. 20) when they host Saginaw Valley State at the GVSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.
