KENOSHA, Wis. – The No. 16 Grand Valley State women's soccer team shutout Parkside 2-0 Friday (Oct. 11) afternoon on the road in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Lakers improve to 7-1-3 on the season and 4-1-2 in GLIAC play.
GVSU opened up the scoring in the 25
th minute off a penalty kick. Parkside had a hand ball in the box which resulted in a penalty kick taken by
Kennedy Bearden who scored for her third goal of the season.
In the second half, the Lakers would double lead at 2-0 in the 67
th minute.
Taylor Reid made a great run on the right side and made a cross that deflected off two Parkside defenders.
Ryann Fetty was in good position to touch pass it to
Sarah Fromm who kicked it past the keeper with the right foot at the top left corner of the goal. That goal was Fromm's second of the season, while Fetty picked up her first assist of the season.
GVSU outshot Parkside 18-10 and 6-2 on goal. The Lakers produced six corner kicks to the Rangers two.
Kennedy Bearden scored the game-winning goal and three shots.
Sarah Fromm led the Lakers with a goal on four shots with two on goal.
Abby Winn notched three shots with one on goal, while
Amanda Palmer and
Emma Chudik each added two shots with one on goal.
Cailynn Junk got the start in goal and made two saves earning her fourth individual shutout of the season.
The Lakers will be back in action next weekend when they return home to host Roosevelt on Friday (Oct. 18) at 3:00 PM and Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 2:00 PM.
