Lakers Resume Conference Play this Weekend vs Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team resumes their GLIAC schedule at home when they host Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. The Lakers will first take on Michigan Tech on Thursday (Jan. 4) at 8:00 PM before taking on Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 6) at 3:00 PM.

GVSU is 4-7 this season and are 1-0 in the GLIAC. The Lakers defeated Davenport back in early December in their only GLIAC game so far this season. GVSU is averaging 72 points per game on 42% shooting from the field. The Lakers are outrebounding their opponents 446-352 this season which is a plus 8.5 margin per game.
 
Britain Harris leads the scoring for the Lakers averaging 12.3 points per game on 41% shooting from the field. Harris is also averaging 3.5 rebounds per game and leads the team with 13 steals. Trevon Gunter has notched 10.8 points per game on 49% shooting from the field. Gunter leads the team with 16 made three pointers shooting at a 44% clip. William Dunn is putting up 10.5 points per game and bringing down 6.4 rebounds per game this season. Dunn has knocked down 16 three pointers on 42% shooting from behind the arc. 
 
Michigan Tech enters the weekend with a 4-7 overall record and 1-1 GLIAC mark. The Huskies are averaging 74 points per game on 43% shooting from the field. Michigan Tech has won their last two games against Winona State and Algoma University. The Huskies opened up their GLIAC schedule with a loss to Saginaw Valley before defeating Wayne State.
 
The Huskies are led by Marcus Tomashek who is averaging a GLIAC best 24.9 points per game. Tomashek is shooting 46% from the field and 42% from three. Dan Gherezgher has notched 10.6 points a game on 39% shooting from the field. 
 
Northern Michigan enters the weekend with a 9-5 overall record and 2-0 GLIAC mark. The Wildcats are 7-2 at home and will be on the road for just the second and third time this weekend when they play Davenport and GVSU. 
 
Northern Michigan has won their last five games including two GLIAC wins against Wayne State and Saginaw Valley. The Wildcats rank second in the GLIAC averaging 83.6 points per game. Northern Michigan is shooting 48% from the field as a team and hold a plus 7.9 rebounding margin this season.
 
The Wildcats have five players scoring in double digits this season led by Dylan Kuehl who ranks third in the GLIAC averaging 18 points per game. Kuehl has hauled in 6.4 rebounds per game and is hooting 54% from the field. Max Weisbrod has notched 13.2 points and leads the team with 62 assists. Carson Smith is putting up 12.1 points per game shooting 50% from the field and 44% from three. Brian Parzych is averaging 11.5 points on 41% shooting and Sam Schultz has added 11.1 points per game on 56% shooting while hauling in a GLIAC best 10.4 rebounds per game.
