Lakers on the Road for Pair of GLIAC Games vs LSSU and FSU

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team hits the road for their first GLIAC road games of the season. The Lakers will travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to take on Lake Superior State on Thursday (Jan. 18) at 7:30 PM. GVSU will then travel to Big Rapids to face rival Ferris State on Saturday (Jan. 20) at 3:00 PM.

The Lakers are coming off a pair of GLIAC wins last weekend against Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State. GVSU trailed at the half in both games and had two impressive second half performances to claim two come from behind victories. 
 
It was a team effort in the 88-83 win over SVSU last week as six Lakers scored in double figures. Ethan Alderink led the Lakers in scoring, tying a career high 16 points on 7-13 shooting from the field. Williams Dunn also scored 16 points in the win vs Saginaw Valley State, knocking down four three pointers. Trevon Gunter and Mason Docks each scored 12 points, while Trevor Smith and Jalen Charity each added 11 points. 
 
In the 74-70 win over Wayne State, Ethan Alderink notched 16 points for the second consecutive game and has scored in double figures in six straight games. Trevor Smith scored a season high 14 points on 6-10 shooting while dishing out three assists. Mason Docks added 11 points of the bench including nine second half points. Docks also dished out five assists, swiped two steals, and did not commit a turnover. William Dunn added nine points and brought down 10 rebounds in the win.
 
GVSU improved to 4-1 in the GLIAC and sit alone in second place in the standings. The Lakers are averaging 74 points per game on 43% shooting. Alderink leads the team in scoring averaging 11.7 points a game. Dunn has notched 11.3 points a game and leads the team shooting 44% from behind the arc. Britain Harris has scored 10.8 points off the bench while hauling in 3.6 rebounds a game.
 
Lake Superior State enters Thursday's game with a 10-5 overall record and 2-3 GLIAC mark. LSSU leads the GLIAC in opponents points per game at 65.7. The Lakers are coming off a road weekend split, falling to Northern Michigan at the buzzer before defeating Michigan Tech in Houghton. 
 
LSSU is led by Kingsley Perkins who is averaging 14.3 points per game and 7.1 rebounds. Tyson Edmondson has notched 13.2 points a game 46% shooting from the field and 45% shootign from three. Xander Okerlund has added 11 points on 41% shooting and has hauled in four rebounds per game. 
 
Ferris State enters the weekend with a 13-3 overall record and are 3-2 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs split last weekend defeating Michigan Tech in Houghton before falling to Northern Michigan in Marquette. Ferris State leads the GLIAC in multiple offensive categories including points per game (88.3), field goal percentage (51.0), three-point percentage (41.3), and assists (21.9). The Bulldogs also lead the GLIAC with 8.9 steals a game and 4.9 blocks.
 
Ethan Erickson leads the bulldogs in scoring at 13.9 points per game off the bench. Erickson ranks fourth in the GLIAC shooting the three at a 49.1 percent clip.
