Box Score DETROIT, MICH. – That's a great way to start the weekend! The GVSU women's volleyball team swept Wayne State to open the weekend, and pick up their eighth victory of the season.
GVSU took down the Warriors by the scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-13. Set one was back and forth, with neither team getting a lead bigger than three. The Warriors were holding a slim 22-21 lead, but the Lakers ended the set on a 4-0 run, with three kills from
Jordyn Gates, as the Lakers took the first set. In set two, the Lakers went up 16-11, but the Warriors battled back to take a 21-20 lead. GVSU came back and ended on a 5-2 run, capped off by another kill by Gates. The Lakers controlled the final set from start to finish, jumping out to an 8-2 start and never looking back, as they cruised to the final set win and the completion of the sweep.
Jordyn Gates had a double-double tonight, tallying 14 kills and 15 assists, while also adding five block assists.
Kendall Stover had nine kills and
Meghan O'Sullivan added eight herself.
Brianna Stawski had seven kills and five blocks and hit at a .875 clip.
Rachel Jacquay dished out 25 assists and
Julia Blaney had a team-high nine digs.
