ALLENDALE – The No. 8 Grand Valley State women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Maryville Saturday (Sept. 2) at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers move to 0-1-1 on the season.

The Lakers outshot the Saints 13-4 in shots, 2-1 shots on goal and had a 5-1 corner kick advantage. Both teams were scoreless at the half with the Lakers leading 7-2 in shots and 4-1 in corner kicks.

In the second half, Kacy Lauer opened the scoring in the 47th minute. Lauer made a beautiful move inside the right side of the box and finished with the left foot to put the Lakers up 1-0. Three minutes later, Maryville tied the game at one off a header in the middle of the box off an insert from the left side. Both teams would end the game scoreless as the game would result in a tie.
