ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team tied Saginaw Valley State 1-1 Sunday (Sept. 17) afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers are now 3-1-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in the GLIAC.
Saginaw Valley State opened up the scoring in the 13
th minute. The Cardinals placed a great cross in the box for a volley with the right foot that found the back of the net on the left side of the goal.
The Lakers would find the equalizer late in the first half.
Abby Winn placed a cross from the right side into the box where Fetty crossed it at the left post for
Amanda Palmer to kick it in near the right post. That goal was Palmer's first career goal as a Laker, while Winn picked up her first assist of the season and Fetty her second assist of the season.
The Lakers and Cardinals would play a scoreless second half and would end the game in a 1-1 draw. GVSU outshot Saginaw Valley State 11-7, 4-2 on goal and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Five Laker field players saw all 90 minutes of action including
Taylor Reid,
Kacy Lauer,
Daan Louwerse,
Mackenzie Ford, and
Mackenzie Jones.
Isabel Imes got the start in goal for the Lakers and made one save. Palmer led the Laker offense with a goal and three shots with two on goal. Lauer recorded three shots with one on goal.
Alicia White added a shot on goal.
The Lakers will be back in action next week when they continue GLIAC play on the road against Purdue Northwest and Parkside. The Lakers will travel to Hammond, Indiana to face Purdue Northwest on Friday (Sept. 22) at 1:00 PM ET. On Sunday (Sept. 24), GVSU will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin to take on Parkside at 1:00 PM ET.
