HOUGHTON, MICH. – The GVSU Volleyball Team dropped their GLIAC opener tonight, falling in three sets to Michigan Tech 25-21, 25-19, 25-18. Tonight's loss is the Lakers first of the season as they fall to 6-1.
Grand Valley started strong in the first set, taking an early 7-4 lead. Tech responded with 5 straight points and took control of the set. GVSU battled back to within one 21-22, but the Huskies rattled off three straight points to take the opening set. In set two, GVSU took a 2-1 lead, but it was all Michigan Tech from there, as they came away with a 25-19 set two win.. In set three, Grand Valley battled back from a 5-15 deficit, bringing it within three, but Tech weathered the comeback, taking the final set 25-18.
Jordyn Gates led the Lakers attack with 13 kills, while
Kendall Stover added 8.
Brianna Stawski paced Grand Valley with 4 blocks, and Gates and
Sarah Wight pitched in 3. Stover notched 11 digs in the losing effort.
