ALLENDALE – The No. 8 Grand Valley State women's soccer team lost 1-0 against Ashland Thursday at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers start the season at 0-1, while the Eagles begin the season 1-0.
 
Ashland would score the lone goal of the game in the ninth minute off a Laker own goal. The Lakers outshot the Eagles 11-5, 6-1 shots on goal. GVSU also led 6-3 in corner kicks.
 
Sophomore Abby Winn led the Lakers with two shots on goal. Senior Taylor Reid, junior Claire Breault, and freshman Alli French each had one shot on goal. Freshman Ella Kleiver notched two shots with one on goal. Junior goalkeeper Kendall Robertson got the start in goal and made one save.
