ALLENDALE, MICHIGAN – The Grand Valley State men's jumps team qualified three Lakers to compete in the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon this weekend (Thursday, July 6
th – Sunday, July 9
th).
Luke Jelderks will be competing in the men's long jump US U20 Championships on Saturday, July 8
th, while
Eli Kosiba and
Jonathan Rankins-James will take on the men's high jump US Championships on Sunday, July 9
th.

U20 Long Jump Qualifying List
High Jump Qualifying List
Jelderks qualified for the men's long jump with a mark of 7.41m. The men's U20 long jump consists of the Top 16 long jumpers in the country under the age of 20. The Top 3 athletes have the opportunity to qualify for the U20 Worlds and NACAC Championships, taking place in Costa Rica at the end of July.
Eli Kosiba and
Jonathan Rankins-James qualified for the men's high jump with a mark of 2.25m (Kosiba) and 2.18m (Rankins-James). The men's high jump consists of the Top 16 jumpers within the U.S. including professionals, post collegiate and current college athletes. Kosiba is ranked sixth heading into the Championships and is currently tied with the third best U.S jump during the 2023 season.
Kosiba and Rankins-James have the opportunity to qualify for three different teams while competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships. The Worlds team who will compete in Budapest at the end of August, The U.S team traveling to the NACAC Championships in late July or The U.S team competing in Chile of the Pan Am Championships in October and November.
In addition, former Grand Valley State Laker Kristen Hixson Leland will be competing in the women's pole vault on Sunday, July 9
th beginning at 8:00 p.m. Hixson currently ranks sixth heading into the USATF Outdoor Championships clearing a personal-best height of 4.65m.
