GVSU Softball's GLIAC Tournament Run Concludes

ROSEMONT, Ill.—The Grand Valley State softball team won, 9-0, against Purdue Northwest to extend its GLIAC Tournament run, but fell to Parkside, 7-3, in an elimination game on Saturday evening at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
 
The Lakers needed just five innings to down Purdue Northwest and keep their GLIAC Tournament run alive. GVSU couldn't overcome a seven-run deficit in the elimination game against Parkside.
 
GVSU sets its sight on the NCAA Regional. The Lakers were ranked second in the final Midwest Region rankings, which would put them in position to host a regional.
 
Game One – GVSU 9, Purdue Northwest 0 (5 Innings)
 
The Laker offense was firing on all cylinders in the first game of the day and Hannah Beatus was nearly perfect in the circle.
 
GVSU put up four runs in the bottom of the first to get out to a quick lead.
 
Kelsey Komorous took advantages of a bases loaded situation, sending a single to left-center field and scoring Lydia Goble and Joanna Cirrincione, making it, 2-0, Lakers. 
 
Liberti Fair also stepped into the batter's box with the bases loaded and she manufactured the same result as Komorous. Fair's single to left-center field brought in Komorous and Morgan Wagner for a, 4-0, lead.
 
GVSU added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
 
Cirrincione doubled to left field, bringing in Goble for a, 5-0, lead. Cirrincione scored on a fielding error off the bat of Wagner, extending the Lakers' lead to six runs. 
 
Fair again had the bases loaded in the second inning and drew a walk to score Eliana Eiland. GVSU led it, 7-0, after two innings.
 
The Lakers added two more runs in the third inning to put them in run-rule territory. 
 
Cirrincione tripled to left-center field and Goble came home to score. She then scored from third on a passed ball to make it, 9-0, in favor of GVSU.
 
Beatus tossed a no-hitter to eliminate the Pride. She earned win No. 22 with a dazzling no-hit performance that saw seven strikeouts. The three-time GLIAC Pitcher of the Year's performance marked her second no-hitter of the season.
 
Game Two – GVSU 3, Parkside 7
 
The Lakers' GLIAC Tournament run came to an end against Parkside.
 
GVSU scored three seventh-inning runs in an attempt to come back from down seven, but the comeback attempt fell short.
 
GLIAC Player of the Year Lydia Goble drove in Hannah Hollister with a single to right field to make it, 7-1. Goble scored on an fielding error off the bat of Joanna Cirrincione. Cirrincione would score on a sacrifice fly from Kelsey Komorous to make it, 7-3. 
 
Parkside scored once in the first inning, three times in the third inning, twice in the fourth inning and once again in the seventh inning to get out to a, 7-0, lead.
 
Ashley Platek took to the circle for the Lakers. She allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits. Platek struck out two batters and issued three walks.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Lakers turn to the NCAA Regionals set for May 11-13. GVSU was ranked second in the final NCAA Midwest Region rankings, which would set the stage for the Lakers to host a regional.
