Pueblo, Colorado – The Grand Valley State men's track and field team placed fourth at the NCAA Division II National Championships with an overall score of 34.5, falling shortly behind Adams State in third with a total of 44 points. The Laker women finished fifth at the NCAA Nationals with a total score of 35 points, falling behind Winona State in fourth with 38 points.
The Grand Valley State men's and women's throws crew ended the Nationals weekend with nine competing Lakers placing within the Top 8.
Myles Kerner finished it out for the Lakers' throws crew, taking home third place in the men's shot put with a distance of 18.83m.
The high jump duo consisting of
Eli Kosiba and
Jonathan Rankins-James, claimed two podium spots to round out the Laker men's overall score. Kosiba tied for fifth place clearing a height of 2.15m, while Rankins-James finished in seventh with a height of 2.15m.
On the track,
Klaudia O'Malley placed sixth in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:39.07.
Taryn Chapko and
Natalie Graber gave the Laker women their final points of the day as they both finish eighth in the respective events. Chapko in the 800m with a time of 2:10.73 and
Natalie Graber in the 5000m with a time of 16:51.41.
Final Results
Both the men's and women's track and field team end their successful 2023 outdoor season placing within the Top 5 at the NCAA National Champions and as the 2023 GLIAC Champions.
