CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Grand Valley State baseball team lost 3-2 at Davenport Friday (April 28) in the first of five games this weekend against the Panthers. The Lakers drop to 26-13 on the season and 13-9 in the GLIAC.
The Lakers jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with a pair of runs to go up 2-0.
Kyle Nott led off the game with an infield single.
Nathan Logan drew a walk to advance Nott to second. A Davenport error during the next at bat allowed Nott to score the opening run. Next batter,
Brendan Guciardo singled through the left side to score
Conner McCormack.
The Panthers cut the Laker lead in half in the bottom of the first inning with a two out single to left field. After six scoreless innings by both teams, the Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Davenport walked it off in the ninth inning off an infield single with the bases loaded to win 3-2.
Nick Rutkowski got the start and tossed eight innings allowing one earned run off seven hits with five strikeouts.
Logan Wynalda suffered the loss (1-2) and struck out one Davenport batter.
Conner McCormack and
Jonas Gulbrandsen led the Laker offense with each going 2-4 at the plate. McCormack added a run scored and a double.
Brendan Guciardo went 1-3 with an RBI.
Kyle Nott hit 1-3 with a run scored, while
Nathan Logan,
Justin Mansager, and
Ayden VanEnkevort each added a hit.
