Lakers Sweep Davenport on Senior Day

ALLENDALE—The Grand Valley State softball team swept Davenport in a pair of games on Saturday afternoon at the GVSU Softball Field.
 
The Lakers took the first game, 2-0, and defeated the Panthers, 10-0, in five innings behind a no-hitter from Nevaeh Ingram.
 
GVSU honored its senior class with a graduation ceremony and Senior Day festivities between games.
 
Game One – GVSU 2, Davenport 0
 
Kelsey Komorous and Lydia Goble pushed GVSU to victory offensively. Both had multi-hit games with Komorous driving in both of GVSU's runs.
 
Goble started out the bottom of the fourth with a double to left-center field. A couple of batter later, Komorous singled to center field and brought Goble home to put the Lakers on the board.
 
Komorous pushed the Laker lead to, 2-0, in the sixth inning. She sent a ball to deep right field for a double, scoring Goble for the final scoring play of the game.
 
Goble scored both of GVSU's runs in the first game of the day. Those runs put her at 200 career runs scored. She became the first player in program history to score 200 runs and extended her school record in career runs scored.
 
Hannah Beatus earned her 17th victory of the season in the circle for GVSU. She tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters over the span of seven innings. She has 10 strikeouts in her last two outings and has totaled 120 this season.
 
Game Two – GVSU 10, Davenport 0 (5 Innings)
 
Nevaeh Ingram took to the circle in the second game of the day and helped complete the Senior Day sweep with an outstanding performance.
 
Ingram tossed a no-hitter for the Lakers, which was her second no-hitter of the season. She struck out four and walked four over five innings of work. 
 
The Laker offense got on the board in the third inning, putting up three runs.
 
GVSU loaded the bases with no outs to kick off their half of the third inning. Kaitlin Lynch drew a walk with the bases loaded to put GVSU up, 1-0.
 
Lydia Goble stepped into the batter's box with the bases still loaded and singled to right field, scoring Hannah Hollister to make it, 2-0. Morgan Wagner was next to the plate and she drew a walk with the bases loaded to give GVSU a, 3-0, lead.
 
The Lakers would put up seven more runs in the home half of the fourth inning.
 
Joanna Cirrincione came up with the bases loaded and drew a walk to bring home Eliana Eiland for a, 4-0, lead.
 
Goble stepped into the batter's box next and launched a ball over the right fielder's head, clearing the bases with a three-RBI triple.
 
Wagner reached on a fielder's choice in the next at-bat and Goble came home to score, giving the Lakers an, 8-0, advantage.
 
Kelsey Komorous walked and Morgan Spicer hit an infield single to load the bases again for GVSU.
 
Eiland and Hollister drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded, making it a, 10-0, lead for GVSU.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Lakers travel to Detroit on Sunday for a doubleheader against Wayne State. The doubleheader in Detroit is set for a 1 p.m. start time.
