Long Beach, CA. – The Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field team kicked off their weekend in California at the Pacific Coast and Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday, April 13
th.
On the track,
Elias Bergman and Nick Hoffman competed in the men's 1500m for the Lakers at the Pacific Coast Invitational. Bergman finished in second place recording a new personal-best time of 3:49.16 while Hoffman placed fourth with a time of 3:51.39. For the women,
Sydney Nesbitt finished 13
th in the 800m with a time of 2:18.93.
The Lakers' throws team was led by
Judith Essemiah, who took home second place in the women's hammer throw, throwing a distance of 62.10m.
Jacob Urban finished sixth in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 64.95m.
Emma Richards finished 12
th in the women's shot put with a distance of 14.91m. Throwing the discus,
Margaret Stevenson finished 16
th with a new personal-best distance of 50.48m,
Emma Richards placed 24
th (48.52m) and
Kelsi Hulit in 26
th(48.29m).
At the Bryan Clay Invitational,
Kayce Rypma and
Maria Mitchell compete in the women's 3000m steeplechase. Rypma placed 36th with a time of 10:23.95 while Mitchell finished 51st in a time of 10:31.68.
Grand Valley State continues their packed weekend tomorrow in California and Indiana at the Bryan Clay Invitational (CA), Beach Invite (CA) and Gibson Invitational (IND). The Lakers begin the Bryan Clay Invitational at 7:00 a.m. (PT) with the men's 10000m, the Beach Invite at 10:00 a.m. (PT) starting with the women's pole vault. Day 2 of the Gibson Invitational begins at 9:30 a.m. (CT) with remainder of the men's decathlon.
