Lakers Crash Into First At The Ken Partridge Invitational

NOBLESVILLE, IND. – For the fourth time this spring and the eighth time this season, the GVSU men's golf team found themselves ending a tournament in first place, winning the Ken Partridge Invitational by nine strokes. Charles DeLong used a strong final day, shooting a four under, to take the individual title, winning his sixth tournament this year and the 12th of his career.
 
The Lakers shot a final round of 283 (-5) to break the tie atop the standings with UMSL and run away with the win, ending the tournament with a -14. UMSL ended up in second after they ended the tournament with a final round of 292 (+4), finishing at -5. Findlay ended in third at +16, followed by Maryville at +20 in fourth, and Tiffin in fifth at +22.
 
After opening round one with an eagle, DeLong closed out the tournament with another eagle, as part of his final round of 68 (-4). DeLong also had two birdies and was even par on the other 15 holes to end the tournament at -11. Nick Krueger ended up in third, after a final round of 70 (-2), sinking six birdies and ended with a four under. Charlie Cooley had two birdies as part of a round of 73 (+1) to end in sixth place at even par. Drew Coble was right behind him in seventh, shooting a +1 for the tournament, and he was even par today, tallying five birdies. Bryce Wheeler carded a final round of 73 (+1) to end in a tie for 28th at +8, as he had three birdies today. Individual Alex Jordan finished off a strong tournament, ending in 12th at four over, after having three birdies as part of a final round of 70 (-2).
 
The Lakers will play at the GLIAC Tournament Championship, starting this Friday, April 14th, at the Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta, Michigan.
