CLERMONT, Fla.—The Grand Valley State softball team swept another day of games at The Spring Games, taking down Missouri-St. Louis, 5-1, and beating Upper Iowa, 5-3, on Thursday.

GAME 1 – GVSU 5, UMSL 1

The Laker softball team got out to an early start, scoring three runs in the first two innings.
Â
Joanna Cirinncione singled with the bases loaded to drive in
Hannah Hollister, putting GVSU up, 1-0, after the first inning.Â

Morgan Spicer scored in the second inning after taking advantage of an error by UMSL to score from second. Hollister scored again on a
Kaitlin Lynch double to center field, pushing the Laker lead to, 3-0.

In the fifth inning, Spicer stepped into the batter's box and hit a two-RBI single to score
Jenna Ballard and
Alexis McCullough. The Lakers led it, 5-0, heading into the final inning.

UMSL would get on the board in the seventh inning, scoring on a single with a pair of runners on base. That was the only run the Tritons would score.

Hannah Beatus finished allowing just the one run in seven innings. She only allowed five hits during her complete game and struck out three batters.

GAME 2 – GVSU 5, Upper Iowa 3

GVSU scored twice in the top half of the seventh inning to defeat Upper Iowa.Â

Headed into the final frame tied at three, the Lakers took a, 4-3, lead when
Eliana Eiland scored on an Upper Iowa error. GVSU tacked on another run on a fielder's choice RBI for
Lydia Goble that scored
Hannah Hollister.

Goble also kicked off the scoring for the Lakers against Upper Iowa. In the top of the first inning, Goble tripled to score
Kaitlin Lynch. She then scored on a wild pitch to give the Lakers a, 2-0, lead.

After an Upper Iowa run in the bottom of the first,
Liberti Fair doubled home Eiland to make the Lakers' lead, 3-1.

Upper Iowa would answer with a pair of runs in the fifth inning to set up the tied score in the final two innings.

Ashley Platek earned her fifth victory of the season, pitching all seven innings for the Lakers. She allowed just one earned run of the three Upper Iowa scored. Platek struck out seven batters and issued four walks.

The Lakers (11-2) are set for another pair of games from The Sunshine State on Friday. GVSU kicks off the day at Wayne State College (Neb.) at 9 a.m. and then are set for a matchup with Notre Dame College (Ohio) at 2 p.m.
